The Color Purple is an epistolary novel written by a great American author Alice Walker. It was first published in 1982 and it won a Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1983.
This is one of the greatest feminist works of Alice Walker, this novel is about an uneducated African-American woman struggle who is being abused and she fought for woman empowerment. The book also shows the male-dominated society. In this novel, Walker highlights how males were dominated and abused their daughters and wives. They used to behave like an object with them. At that time females were also used to this kind of behavior.
Celie is the protagonist of the novel. She is a poor black woman who wrote a letter, which letters tell the story of 20 years of her life. At the age of 14, she is being abused and raped by her father. After that, she attempts to protect her sister from the same fate.
