The Hobbit Book Summary

In the hole of the ground, there is a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins who lives a very comfortable, peaceful life until he meets a great wizard named Gandalf. Bilbo was surprised when Gandalf suddenly visited Bilbo’s home and invited him on a great adventure.

He wants Bilbo to help a group of dwarves to take back the lonely mountains from Smaug who rule the whole mountain. Bilbo was terrified of going anywhere because he never had any adventure. He was about to decline the contract but before he declined Gandalf had invited himself for tea. The next day Gandalf arrived with thirteen dwarves, who were led by Thorian

Thorin Oakenshield, whose grandfather left a map and key to the lonely mountain in the hand of Gandalf. They all wanted to regain all the lost treasure that is protected by dragon Smaug at the Lonely Mountain with the help of Bilbo, who was going to play the role of burglar, they all started their journey to the Lonely Mountain.

The Power of a Magical Ring

On the journey, they faced many trolls, creatures, and a lot of difficulties but Gandalf and Thorin managed through some tricks and saved them all. One night the group wanted to rest and wanted shelter because of bad weather so they all decided to rest at the tunnel.

The cave was home to goblins, who imprisoned them but somehow Gandalf and Thorin helped them to escape from the goblins Bilbo is left behind in the tunnel and now he is in control of Gollum. Gollum was the leader of Gollum who had a magical ring but accidentally he lost the ring and Bilbo found it and put it into his pocket.

Gollum wants the ring back but Bilbo tries to manipulate Gollum and they decide to play a riddle game. Bilbo wins the game. Now Gollum wants to eat Bilbo instead of indicating to him the way out of the mountain and then Bilbo gets to know that the ring can make him invisible so he uses this magical power to hide from Gollum and get out of the mountain.

Bilbo joins the others but he doesn’t tell them about the ring. As they continue their journey, They are attacked by a large group of wargs and wild wolves, who are a helper of goblins.

They all started to climb the tree to save themself from wolves but then goblins arrived and set fire to the trees. In the end, the lord of the Eagle arrives with his group and carries them to shelter.

A Dangerous Mirkwood Forest

Somehow After saving their lives with the help of eagles, they all traveled next to the home of Beorn. Beorn has a special and strange power, he can turn himself into a bear. They all wanted to go to Mirkwood, a dangerous forest. Beorn agrees to help them travel to the gate of Mirkwood.

They all are thought to stay in the forest so here is the point where Gandalf removes the group for some crucial meeting. Mirkwood Forest is a mysterious forest and home to dangerous spiders. On the other hand, the dwarves and Bilbo try to find food but suddenly a huge spider seized them, but Bilbo used his ring and saved himself and others from the spiders.

Now Thorian is missing and later they all get to know that he has been kidnapped by the wood -elves, they all realize shortly they will be prisoners.

Lake-Town Battle

Bilbo comes to the place of Wood-elves Castle where all 13 dwarves were imprisoned. Bilbo has the keys to the door so he quickly unlocks every door to escape the dwarves. He puts dwarves and himself in wine barrels and then a man helps them to throw the barrels through a trap door into the river which flows to the lake town where man lives.

Now Dwarves don’t have any weapons and also they are hungry but  Lake-town people help dwarves to feed and provide weapons. On the other side, Bilbo reaches the lonely Mountain, and now the dwarves find their way up the mountain and reach an area where the secret door is concealed.

Secret Door for the Treasure

Bilbo opens the door and uses that magical ring to hide from the Smaug and enter the place where a huge amount of gold, jewelry, and gems are protected by the dragon Smaug. He tries to search for Arkenstone which is a very precious stone while searching for the stone Smaug knows he is there and  Bilbo tries to talk to him, but Smaug gets angry and then Smaug flies out to the mountain so he can harm lake town people and glance off the dwarves, Smaug also destroys the secret door but all dwarves safely huddle in the tunnel.

Later they all go to the Smaug place but Smaug is not there and with that thorian wants to find Arkenstone but Arkenstone was not there because Bilbo finds it and keeps it to himself. After two days Smaug is killed by Bard. Later they all get to know about Smaug’s death so Thorian including elves, goblins, and Beorn wants the treasure.

 The Final Battle for Treasure

Wood-elves think that dwarves are dead so they want the treasure. A raven named Roac arrives at the dwarves and Thorian and tells them the intention of elves. Thorian said no one will get the treasure, So they all go to the lonely Mountain.

Bilbo is waiting for something to happen because Bilbo gives the Arkenstone to the lake men and elves to use as bargaining equipment against Thorian. The next day Bard and Elvenking go to the Thorian they will swap the stone for a risk of the treasure.

Gandalf makes Thorian agree to not hurt Bilbo because he gave the Arkenstone to the bard. Thorian decides that he shares the treasure with Bilbo, which could be a halved share between the lake men and the elves.

Dain a dwarf and his group arrive and start the battle between them and the people who camped outside the mountain. As the battle begins goblins and wild wolves come and fight off the Five Armies Ensues.

The eagles and the beorn support the dwarves, men, and elves and win the battle but Thorian dies.

Thereafter, Bilbo and Gandalf return to Bilbo’s home and he starts to live his normal life. Gandalf returns to his wizardry world.
